Bare

When everything strips down bare and I stop trying,
I smile again,
involuntarily
when I’m not fighting,
meeting expectation.

There is a comfortable –
almost delightful –
blur
around the bare edges of my life
that leaves me smiling.

My necessary colors,
happy
shades of blue and comfort
and living where I am
making peace and easy as

the dust is settling;
my dust is set on Him
who holds my bare self without trying
and I free-fall
remembering joy.
